Female sexual dysfunction has been long overlooked by the medical
community, and one of the beneficial outcomes of the Viagra craze will
be increased attention to this often-troubling problem for women. In
fact, compared with other important aspects of health and well being,
relatively little is known about the sexual disorders of women and
their treatment. I have prescribed Viagra for women on a limited
basis, and I am encouraged by the early results. Viagra is
particularly helpful for post-menopausal women in increasing arousal,
vaginal lubrication and sensation. In younger women who have
difficulty achieving orgasm, the drug also seems to increase
sensitivity, but its unclear whether that will result in better, more
or quicker orgasms. I am also aware of many gynecologists that are
excited about exploring the use of Viagra.
